UTILITY ASSISTANCE

What is LEAP?

The Colorado LEAP program is a federally funded state-supervised, county-administered system and is designed to assist with your winter heating costs. The LEAP Program eligibility period runs from November 1st through April 30th.

 

LEAP is not intended to pay the entire cost of home heating. If you are applying for assistance continue to pay your home heating bill.

Eligibility requirements – you may be eligible for LEAP if:

  • You are a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Colorado

  • You pay heating fuel costs directly to an energy provider or you pay the cost of heating your dwelling as part of your rent

  • Your gross monthly household income from all sources and household members falls within the guidelines set annually and posted November 1st of each year. “Household” means the people who reside with you, as applicant, within your dwelling and for whom you are financially responsible for such as a spouse and/or child(ren). The maximum gross monthly income limits listed below are based on 150% of the federal poverty level

CHILD CARE

What is the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program? This program assists low income families with child care subsidies. Funding comes from federal, state and local sources including the new Child Care and Development Block Grant. New state rules and regulations were implemented on July 1, 1997, to expand eligibility and increase the number of families who can receive child care assistance.

 

Who’s eligible?   

  • Teen parents who are working or in school or obtaining a GED.

  • Low income parents are are working or in training.

  • A family whose income does not exceed the following gross monthly income:

How do parents get into the program?

  • Parents apply at the Fremont County Department of Human Services.

  • Parents must provide verification; including self-employment.

  • Eligibility for continued child care subsidies is determined every six months

 

 

EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE

LOAVES AND FISHES MINISTRIES of Canon City

Our food bank is setup to resemble a grocery store where our shoppers are able to select the items they know their family will enjoy eating.  Families receive ten pounds of food per family member.  A family of five would receive 50 pounds of food each.

Our shoppers can also receive bread and produce items daily.

Each month over 25,000 pounds of food are given away.
